A sheep was slaughtered for him in his household. When he came, he asked, "Did you send some to our Jewish neighbor? Did you send some to our Jewish neighbor? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Jibreel kept advising me concerning the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir.'"
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن داود بن شابور وبشير أبي إسمعيل عن مجاهد أن
ذبحت له شاة في أهله فلما جاء قال أهديتم لجارنا اليهودي أهديتم لجارنا اليهودي سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما زال جبريل يوصيني بالجار حتى ظننت أنه سيورثه
[Its chain is sahih]. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the Book of Manners, Chapter on the Right of the Neighbor, no. 5152, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna with the same wording, and he explicitly stated hearing it from Bashir according to Humaydi, no. 593.
