The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who truly maintains family ties is not the one who simply reciprocates. Rather, the one who maintains them is the one who restores the bond when his relatives have severed it."
[Sahih]. Bukhari also reported it in the Book of Manners, chapter "The One Who Truly Maintains Ties Is Not the One Who Merely Reciprocates," no. 5991, and Abu Dawud, no. 1697, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna with the same chain. Abu Naeem Asbahani graded it sahih (Hilyat Awliya, 3/301-302), and Mujahid clearly stated that he heard it directly. There are also narrations on this subject from Salman (Ibn Amir), already mentioned at no. 658, Ayesha [Bukhari, no. 5989, and Muslim, no. 2555], and Abdullah bin Umar, already mentioned at no. 1903.
