Instruct your husbands to cleanse themselves with water, for I am too shy to tell them myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do so.
حدثنا قتيبة ومحمد بن عبد الملك بن أبي الشوارب البصري قالا حدثنا أبو عوانة عن قتادة عن معاذة
مرن أزواجكن أن يستطيبوا بالماء فإني أستحييهم فإن رسول الله ﷺ كان يفعله
[Sahih]. Nasai narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on Cleansing with Water after Relieving Oneself: 43/1, no. 46, from Qutayba with this wording. Yazid Rishk also narrated it from Muaza with this wording (Ahmad: 113/6), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Al-Ihsan): 1440.On this subject there is also a narration from Jareer bin Abdullah Bajali [Ibn Majah, no. 359] and others, from Anas [Bukhari, no. 150, and others, and Muslim, no. 271], and from Abu Hurairah [to come: 3100].
