The letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us stating that we are not to make use of anything from a dead animal, neither its hide nor its sinews.

أتانا كتاب رسول الله ﷺ أن لا تنتفعوا من الميتة بإهاب ولا عصب
[Hasan]. Abu Dawud also reported it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on those who narrated that the hide of a dead animal should not be tanned, no. 4127, as did Nasai, no. 4254, and Ibn Majah, no. 3613, from the hadith of Hakam bin Utayba with this chain. Bayhaqi graded it hasan and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, and Hakam explicitly stated that he heard it directly. Refer to Nayl al-Maqsud for the response to the criticism raised against the chain.* And some of his shaykhs from Juhayna were companions, and all the companions are of upright character.
