A man came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to go out for jihad.The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are your parents alive?"He replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then strive in their service."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن سفيان وشعبة عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت عن أبي العباس
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ يستأذنه في الجهاد فقال ألك والدان قال نعم قال ففيهما فجاهد
Graded muttafaq alayhi. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, Chapter on not going for jihad except with the permission of one's parents, hadith no. 5972, and Muslim, hadith no. 2549, from the hadith of Yahya Qattan through this same route.There is also a report on this subject from Ibn Abbas [Tabarani, hadith no. 12167], in al-Kabir, 11/411.
