The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every boy is held in pledge for his aqiqah, which is to be sacrificed on his behalf on the seventh day, and on that day he is named and his head is shaved."Hasan bin Ali al-Khallal narrated to us, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Saeed bin Abu Aruba reported to us, from Qatada, from al-Hasan, from Samura bin Jundab, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.
حدثنا علي بن حجر أخبرنا علي بن مسهر عن إسمعيل بن مسلم عن الحسن
قال رسول الله ﷺ الغلام مرتهن بعقيقته يذبح عنه يوم السابع ويسمى ويحلق رأسه حدثنا الحسن بن علي الخلال حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا سعيد بن أبي عروبة عن قتادة عن الحسن عن سمرة بن جندب عن النبي ﷺ نحوه
[Sahih]. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the chapters on sacrifices, chapter on aqiqah, no. 2837, 2838, as did Ibn Majah, no. 3165, and Nasai, no. 4225, from the hadith of Hasan Basri with this wording. Abu Dawud also narrated it, no. 2838, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba with this wording. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, no. 910, as did Hakim (3/47) and Dhahabi and Ishbili and others.
