I witnessed the Eid al-Adha prayer with the Prophet ﷺ at the prayer ground. When he finished his sermon, he came down from his pulpit, and a ram was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered it with his own hand and said, "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. This is on behalf of me and on behalf of those of my community who did not offer a sacrifice."

شهدت مع النبي ﷺ الأضحى بالمصلى فلما قضى خطبته نزل عن منبره فأتي بكبش فذبحه رسول الله ﷺ بيده وقال بسم الله والله أكبر هذا عني وعمن لم يضح من أمتي
Sourcing, hasan. Abu Dawud narrated it in Kitab al-Dahaya, Chapter on the sheep sacrificed on behalf of a group, hadith 2810, from Qutayba with the same wording. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Abu Dawud, hadith 2795, and Hakim, 4/229, and others.
