She asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the aqiqah, and he said, "For a boy, two sheep, and for a girl, one. It does not matter to you whether they are male or female."
حدثنا الحسن بن علي الخلال حدثنا عبد الرزاق عن ابن جريج أخبرنا عبيد الله بن أبي يزيد عن سباع بن ثابت أن محمد بن ثابت بن سباع أخبره أن
أنها سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن العقيقة فقال عن الغلام شاتان وعن الأنثى واحدة ولا يضركم ذكرانا كن أم إناثا
Bukhari also narrated it in the chapter on Aqiqah, "Removing harm from the child during the aqiqah," hadith 5471, from the hadith of Hisham bin Hassan through the same chain. It is also found in Musaf Abdul-Razzaq, 262/329, hadith 7958.
