I said, "Messenger of Allah, we will be meeting the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives with us."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Whatever makes the blood flow freely, and Allah's name has been pronounced over it, then eat it, so long as it is not a tooth or a nail. And I will tell you why. As for the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."Muhammad bin Bashshar related to us, Yahya bin Saeed related to us from Sufyan Thawri, who said, my father related to us from Abaya, from Rafi bin Khadij , from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar. In this version he did not mention "Abaya from his father," and this is the more accurate account, since Abaya did hear directly from Rafi. The people of knowledge act upon this, holding that an animal may not be slaughtered with a tooth or with a bone.
