Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Sales, chapter on selling surplus water, hadith no. 3478, from the hadith of Dawud the perfume-seller, with this same wording. Nasai also narrated it, hadith no. 4666, from Qutayba, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2476, from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar, with this same wording.
