Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Sales, chapter on selling surplus water, hadith no. 3478, from the hadith of Dawud the perfume-seller, with this same wording. Nasai also narrated it, hadith no. 4666, from Qutayba, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2476, from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar, with this same wording. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith no. 594, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 1117, and Hakim, 2/44, 61.There are also narrations on this subject from Jabir [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 1530], Buhaysah from her father [Abu Dawud, hadith nos. 1669, 3476], Abu Hurairah [to come, no. 1272], Ayesha [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2479], Anas [Tabarani in Al-Saghir, 1/242], and Abdullah bin Amr [Ahmad, 2/179, 221, and Tabarani in Al-Awsat, hadith no. 1217].
