The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not lawful to combine a loan with a sale, nor to stipulate two conditions in a single sale, nor to profit from what you have not guaranteed, nor to sell what you do not possess."
حدثنا أحمد بن منيع حدثنا إسمعيل بن إبراهيم حدثنا أيوب حدثنا عمرو بن شعيب قال حدثني أبي عن أبيه حتى ذكر
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال لا يحل سلف وبيع ولا شرطان في بيع ولا ربح ما لم يضمن ولا بيع ما ليس عندك
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud transmitted it in the Book of Business Transactions, chapter on a man selling what he does not possess, hadith 3504, and Ibn Majah, hadith 2188, both from the hadith of Ismail bin Ulaya, through the same chain. Nasai transmitted it, hadith 4615, from the hadith of Ayub. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith 601, as did Hakim, 2/17, and Dhahabi.
