I once carried barley bread and rancid fat to the Prophet ﷺ. He had pawned a coat of armor with a Jew for twenty measures of food, which he had taken for his family.I heard him say one day, "Not a single measure of dates nor a measure of grain remains with the family of Muhammad ﷺ this evening," and at that time he had nine wives.
[Sahih] Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Sales, in the chapter "The Prophet's purchase on credit," hadith no. 2069, from the hadith of Hisham with the same chain, with the wording, "some food."
