The Prophet ﷺ said, "Three..."Ayub said, I met Kathir, the freed slave of Banu Samura, and asked him about it, but he did not know it. So I returned to Qatada and informed him, and he said, "He has forgotten."
حدثنا علي بن نصر بن علي حدثنا سليمان بن حرب حدثنا حماد بن زيد قال قلت لأيوب هل علمت أن أحدا قال في أمرك بيدك إنها ثلاث إلا الحسن فقال لا إلا الحسن ثم قال اللهم غفرا إلا ما حدثني قتادة عن كثير مولى بني سمرة عن أبي سلمة
عن النبي ﷺ قال ثلاث قال أيوب فلقيت كثيرا مولى بني سمرة فسألته فلم يعرفه فرجعت إلى قتادة فأخبرته فقال نسي
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Nasai narrated it, 6/147, hadith 3439, from Ali bin Nasr, and Abu Dawud, hadith 2204, from the hadith of Sulayman bin Harb, with the same wording. Qatada is a mudallis and narrated it using "an" (indicating possible concealment in the chain).
