The Prophet ﷺ returned his daughter Zaynab to Abu al-As bin Rabi after six years on the basis of the original marriage, without contracting a new one.
[Its chain is daif]. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the Book of Divorce, chapter "Until When Is His Wife Returned to Him If She Embraces Islam After Him," no. 2240, and Ibn Majah narrated it, no. 2009, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar with the same wording. Hakim graded it sahih in 3/638, 639, according to the criterion of Muslim, but Dhahabi said, "No, Dawud's narration from Ikrima is munkar, as Ibn Madini and others have said." And in Taqrib it is stated, "He is trustworthy, except regarding Ikrima, and he was accused of holding Khawarij views."
