Her husband had divorced her with three pronouncements, and he did not provide her with lodging or maintenance.She said, "He left ten measures for me with a cousin of his, five of barley and five of wheat."She continued, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned this to him."He said, "He has spoken the truth."She said, "He then instructed me to observe my waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "The house of Umm Sharik is one frequented by the Emigrants. Observe your waiting period instead in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for you may remove your garments there without him seeing you. When your waiting period ends and someone comes to propose to you, let me know."She said, "When my waiting period ended, Abu Jahm and Muawiya proposed to me. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned this to him."He said, "As for Muawiya, he is a man with no wealth. As for Abu Jahm, he is harsh with women."She said, "Then Usama bin Zayd proposed to me, and he married me, and Allah blessed me through Usama."This hadith is authentic. Sufyan Thawri also narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Abu Jahm in similar wording, with the addition that the Prophet ﷺ said to her, "Marry Usama."Mahmud narrated to us, Waki narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Bakr bin Abu Jahm, with this report.

أن زوجها طلقها ثلاثا ولم يجعل لها سكنى ولا نفقة قالت ووضع لي عشرة أقفزة عند ابن عم له خمسة شعيرا وخمسة برا قالت فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له قالت فقال صدق قالت فأمرني أن أعتد في بيت أم شريك ثم قال لي رسول الله ﷺ إن بيت أم شريك بيت يغشاه المهاجرون ولكن اعتدي في بيت ابن أم مكتوم فعسى أن تلقي ثيابك ولا يراك فإذا انقضت عدتك فجاء أحد يخطبك فآذنيني فلما انقضت عدتي خطبني أبو جهم ومعاوية قالت فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له فقال أما معاوية فرجل لا مال له وأما أبو جهم فرجل شديد على النساء قالت فخطبني أسامة بن زيد فتزوجني فبارك الله لي في أسامة هذا حديث صحيح وقد رواه سفيان الثوري عن أبي بكر بن أبي الجهم نحو هذا الحديث وزاد فيه فقال لي النبي ﷺ انكحي أسامة حدثنا محمود حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أبي بكر بن أبي الجهم بهذا
Muslim also recorded it, in the chapter of divorce, section "the irrevocably divorced woman is not entitled to maintenance," hadith 1480/50, from the hadith of Abu Dawud Tayalisi, from Shubah (1480/47), and from the hadith of Waki, from Sufyan Thawri, with the same wording. It is also found in his Musnad, hadith 1645.
