Ghaylan bin Salama Thaqafi embraced Islam while he had ten wives from the days of ignorance, and they all embraced Islam with him. The Prophet ﷺ ordered him to choose four of them.
حدثنا هناد حدثنا عبدة عن سعيد بن أبي عروبة عن معمر عن الزهري عن سالم بن عبد الله
أن غيلان بن سلمة الثقفي أسلم وله عشر نسوة في الجاهلية فأسلمن معه فأمره النبي ﷺ أن يتخير أربعا منهن
Its isnad is daif. Ibn Majah also narrated it in the Book of Marriage, chapter "A man accepts Islam while having more than four wives," hadith no. 1953, from the hadith of Mamar, from Zuhri, using an ambiguous form of transmission (anana). Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Al-Ihsan): 4146. The hadith has daif corroborating reports in Ibn Majah, hadith no. 1952, and elsewhere.
