[Its chain is daif]. Tahawi also narrated it in Maani al-Athar 1/56 through Sharik the judge, using the same chain. Sharik the judge used the term "an" (indicating a possible break in the chain), and there are daif corroborating narrations for it in Ibn Abu Shayba 1/77, hadith 18/89, hadith 958 and 960. The report from Waki has a sahih chain.On this subject, there are also narrations from Uthman bin Affan [Bukhari 179, 292, and Muslim 347], Ali bin Abu Talib [Ibn Abu Shayba 1/89], Zubayr [within the hadith of Uthman], Talha [within the hadith of Uthman], Abu Ayub [Bukhari, hadith 292, and Muslim, hadith 347b], and Abu Saeed [Bukhari, hadith 180, and Muslim, hadith 345].
