The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The food served on the first day is an obligation, the food on the second day is a sunnah, and the food on the third day is for show. Whoever seeks to be heard of, Allah will expose him."

Daif. Its takhrij, its isnad is daif. Bayhaqi reported it in 7:260 and Ibn Adi in 3:150 from the hadith of Muhammad bin Musa Basri Harashi with the same wording, and he judged it daif. The hadith has weak corroborating narrations with Abu Dawud, no. 3745, and Ibn Hibban, no. 1915, and others.Ata bin Saaib became confused in his later years.As for Waki's statement, "Ziyad bin Abdullah, despite his nobility, does not lie in hadith," the word "not" seems to have been dropped from Tirmidhi's narration, in my view. Bukhari said in Tarikh al-Kabir, 3:360, "Ibn Uqbah Sadusi reported from Waki, 'He is too noble to lie.'" Abu Ahmad Hakim likewise reported it this way, and this is the correct version, as stated in Tahdhib and elsewhere.
