Whenever Abdullah bin Mughafal heard one of us reciting "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful," he would say, "I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, behind Abu Bakr, and behind Umar , and I never heard any of them recite 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'"
أخبرنا إسمعيل بن مسعود قال حدثنا خالد قال حدثنا عثمان بن غياث قال أخبرني أبو نعامة الحنفي قال
كان عبد الله بن مغفل إذا سمع أحدنا يقرأ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم يقول صليت خلف رسول الله ﷺ وخلف أبي بكر وخلف عمر رضي الله عنهما فما سمعت أحدا منهم قرأ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
[Its isnad is hasan] Reported by Tirmidhi, Prayer, chapter on refraining from reciting Bismillah aloud, hadith 244, and Ibn Majah, Establishing prayer, chapter on beginning the recitation, hadith 815, from the hadith of Abu Numaamah Qays bin Ubayah al-Hanafi, and Tirmidhi said, "Hasan."The son of Abdullah bin Mughafal is named Yazid, as noted in Musnad Ahmad, 4/85.
