I said, "Messenger of Allah, tell me about ablution."He said, "Perform the ablution thoroughly, and inhale water deeply into the nose, unless you are fasting."
أخبرنا قتيبة بن سعيد قال حدثنا يحيى بن سليم عن إسمعيل بن كثير ح وأنبأنا إسحق بن إبراهيم قال أنبأنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أبي هاشم
قلت يا رسول الله أخبرني عن الوضوء قال أسبغ الوضوء وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما
Sahih. Abu Dawud transmitted it in Kitab al-Tahara, Bab fi al-Istinthar, hadith (142), and see also (143, 145, 2366, 3973), from Qutayba, with this wording. Tirmidhi graded it sahih (138, 788), as did Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, Hakim (1/147, 148), Dhahabi, and others. Part of it comes later at (144), and it is also found in al-Kubra, hadith (98).
