The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out wearing a red garment, planted a short spear (Anazah) in the ground, and prayed facing it. Dogs, women, and donkeys would pass behind it.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on the sutrah of the one praying and the recommendation of praying toward a sutrah, etc., hadith 503, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, with this chain, at length. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith 848. Its basic content is agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim], from the hadith of Awn, with this chain.
