The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should pray in a single garment with nothing of it covering his shoulders."
أخبرنا محمد بن منصور قال حدثنا سفيان قال حدثنا أبو الزناد عن الأعرج
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا يصلين أحدكم في الثوب الواحد ليس على عاتقه منه شيء
Muslim reported it in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on Prayer in a Single Garment and How to Wear It, hadith no. 516, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna. Bukhari reported it in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on If One Prays in a Single Garment He Should Place It Over His Shoulders, hadith no. 359, from the hadith of Abu Zinad, with the same chain. It is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 845.
