When my people returned from visiting the Prophet ﷺ, they said that he had instructed, "Let the one among you who has memorized the most of the Quran lead you in prayer." So they called me over and taught me how to perform the bowing and prostration, and I began leading them in prayer.I used to wear a torn cloak, and the people would say to my father, "Won't you cover your son's backside from us?"

Bukhari included it in the chapters on Maghazi, chapter (54), hadith 4302, through another route from Amr bin Salama, and Abu Dawud in the chapters on Prayer, chapter on "Who has more right to lead the prayer?", hadith 586, from the hadith of Asim with this wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith 843. Part of it has already appeared, hadith 637, and will appear again, hadith 790.
