The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray on his mount facing whatever direction it was headed, and he would perform the witr prayer on it as well, except that he would not perform the obligatory prayers on it.
أخبرنا عيسى بن حماد قال حدثنا ابن وهب قال أخبرني يونس عن ابن شهاب عن سالم
كان رسول الله ﷺ يصلي على الراحلة قبل أي وجه توجه به ويوتر عليها غير أنه لا يصلي عليها المكتوبة
