The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution. He was brought water in a vessel containing about two-thirds of a mudd.Shuba said, "I remember that he washed his forearms and rubbed them, and that he wiped the inner parts of his ears, but I do not remember whether he wiped the outer parts."
أخبرنا محمد بن بشار قال حدثنا محمد ثم ذكر كلمة معناها حدثنا شعبة عن حبيب قال سمعت عباد بن تميم
أن النبي ﷺ توضأ فأتي بماء في إناء قدر ثلثي المد قال شعبة فأحفظ أنه غسل ذراعيه وجعل يدلكهما ويمسح أذنيه باطنهما ولا أحفظ أنه مسح ظاهرهما
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the Book of Purification, chapter on what suffices in water for wudu, hadith (94), from Muhammad bin Bashshar with the same wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith (76), and Abu Zura graded it sahih (Ilal al-Hadith 1/25), hadith (39).
