During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, men and women used to perform ablution together.
أخبرني هارون بن عبد الله قال حدثنا معن قال حدثنا مالك ح والحارث بن مسكين قراءة عليه وأنا أسمع عن ابن القاسم قال حدثني مالك عن نافع
كان الرجال والنساء يتوضئون في زمان رسول الله ﷺ جميعا
Bukhari also reported it in the Book of Wudu, chapter, "A man performing wudu with his wife," etc., hadith (193), from the hadith of Malik through this route. It is also found in Muwatta, 1/24 (Yahya's version), and in Kubra, hadith (72) (Maen's version only).
