How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray during the night? He described that the Prophet prayed eleven rakahs including the witr, then slept so deeply that I saw him breathing heavily. Bilal came to him and said, "The prayer, Messenger of Allah." He rose, prayed two rakahs, then led the people in prayer without performing ablution.
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحكم عن شعيب عن الليث قال حدثنا خالد عن ابن أبي هلال عن مخرمة بن سليمان أن كريبا مولي ابن عباس أخبره قال سألت
كيف كانت صلاة رسول الله ﷺ بالليل فوصف أنه صلى إحدى عشرة ركعة بالوتر ثم نام حتى استثقل فرأيته ينفخ وأتاه بلال فقال الصلاة يا رسول الله فقام فصلى ركعتين وصلى بالناس ولم يتوضأ
Bukhari, Wudu, Chapter on reciting the Quran after relieving oneself and other occasions, no. 183, and Muslim, Prayer of the Traveler, Chapter on the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ and his supplication at night, no. 182/763, narrated it through the hadith of Makhrama, and it is in al-Kubra, vol. 1:650. Abu Dawud also narrated it, no. 1364, through the hadith of Shuayb.
