Someone asked Ibn Umar whether one may combine any of the prayers while traveling.He replied, "No, except at Muzdalifah."Then I came to him another time, and he related the following. Safiyyah was with him when she sent word to him saying, "I am in my last day of this world and my first day of the next."So he mounted his ride, and I went with him. He hurried along until the time for prayer arrived.The muezzin said to him, "The prayer, Abu Abdul-Rahman."But he kept going until he was between the times of the two prayers, then he dismounted and said to the muezzin, "Call the iqamah, and when I give the salam from Zuhr, call the iqamah again where you stand."So the muezzin called the iqamah, and Ibn Umar prayed Zuhr in two rakahs, then gave the salam. Then the muezzin called the iqamah again in the same spot, and he prayed Asr in two rakahs.Then he mounted and hurried along until the sun had set.The muezzin said to him, "The prayer, Abu Abdul-Rahman."He answered, "Do as you did before."He continued on until the stars had become densely visible, then he dismounted and said, "Call the iqamah, and when I give the salam, call it again."So he prayed Maghrib in three rakahs, then the muezzin called the iqamah in the same spot, and he prayed the final Isha. Then he gave a single salam straight ahead of him.Then he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When any of you faces a matter he fears will pass him by, let him pray in this manner."
أخبرنا عبدة بن عبد الرحيم قال حدثنا ابن شميل قال حدثنا كثير بن قاروندا قال سألنا سالم بن عبد الله عن الصلاة في السفر
يجمع بين شيء من الصلوات في السفر فقال لا إلا بجمع ثم أتيته فقال كانت عنده صفية فأرسلت إليه أني في آخر يوم من الدنيا وأول يوم من الآخرة فركب وأنا معه فأسرع السير حتى حانت الصلاة فقال له المؤذن الصلاة يا أبا عبد الرحمن فسار حتى إذا كان بين الصلاتين نزل فقال للمؤذن أقم فإذا سلمت من الظهر فأقم مكانك فأقام فصلى الظهر ركعتين ثم سلم ثم أقام مكانه فصلى العصر ركعتين ثم ركب فأسرع السير حتى غابت الشمس فقال له المؤذن الصلاة يا أبا عبد الرحمن فقال كفعلك الأول فسار حتى إذا اشتبكت النجوم نزل فقال أقم فإذا سلمت فأقم فصلى المغرب ثلاثا ثم أقام مكانه فصلى العشاء الآخرة ثم سلم واحدة تلقاء وجهه ثم قال قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا حضر أحدكم أمر يخشى فوته فليصل هذه الصلاة
