The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought, on the night of his Ascension, two cups, one of wine and one of milk. He looked at them and took the milk.Jibreel said to him, "Praise be to Allah who guided you to the natural disposition. Had you taken the wine, your nation would have gone astray."
أخبرنا سويد قال أنبأنا عبد الله عن يونس عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب
أتي رسول الله ﷺ ليلة أسري به بقدحين من خمر ولبن فنظر إليهما فأخذ اللبن فقال له جبريل عليه السلام الحمد لله الذي هداك للفطرة لو أخذت الخمر غوت أمتك
Bukhari reported it in the tafsir chapter, "The chapter on His statement, 'Who took His servant by night from Masjid al-Haram,'" hadith 4709, from the narration of Abdullah bin Mubarak. Muslim reported it in the book of drinks, the chapter on the permissibility of drinking milk, hadith 168 before, hadith 2010, from the narration of Yunus bin Yazid through the same chain. It is also in al-Kubra, hadith 5167.
