He heard Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas both testify that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the use of gourd containers, green-glazed jars, vessels coated with pitch, and hollowed tree trunks. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse, "Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it" [Hashr 59:7].
أخبرنا أحمد بن سليمان قال حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال حدثنا منصور بن حيان سمع
أنه سمع ابن عمر وابن عباس أنهما شهدا على رسول الله ﷺ أنه نهى عن الدباء والحنتم والمزفت والنقير ثم تلا رسول الله ﷺ هذه الآية {وما آتاكم الرسول فخذوه وما نهاكم عنه فانتهوا}
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks, chapter on the prohibition of soaking dates and the like in tar-coated vessels and gourds, etc, hadith no. 46/1997, from the hadith of Mansur, through the same chain, without the recitation of the verse, and it may be an insertion, and Allah knows best. It is also found in Al-Kubra, part A153.
