Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled and mounted his riding camel, he would point with his finger, and Shuba extended his own finger to demonstrate, and say, "O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian of family and property. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel and the gloom of returning."
أخبرنا محمد بن عمر بن علي بن مقدم قال حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن شعبة عن عبد الله بن بشر الخثعمي عن أبي زرعة
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا سافر فركب راحلته قال بإصبعه ومد شعبة بإصبعه قال اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل والمال اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنقلب
[Its chain is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Supplications, the chapter on what one says when setting out on a journey, hadith 3438, from Muhammad bin Umar Muqaddami through this route, and he said, hasan gharib. It also appears in Al-Kubra, hadith 7938.
