Ibn Abu Mulayka reported,

Two slave girls were sewing leather in Taif when one of them came out with her hand bleeding. She claimed that her companion had injured her, but the other denied it. A letter was written to Ibn Abbas about this matter, and he wrote back saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had ruled that the oath is upon the defendant, "for if people were granted whatever they claimed, some would claim others' wealth and lives. So summon her and recite to her this verse, 'Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter'" [Aal Imran 3:77], until he completed the verse. So I summoned her and recited it to her, and she confessed to it, which pleased him.
