The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to visit me when I had hung up a curtain that had figures on it. When he saw it, his face changed color. He then tore it down with his hand and said, "The people most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection are those who try to imitate Allah's creation."
أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم وقتيبة بن سعيد عن سفيان عن الزهري أنه سمع القاسم بن محمد يخبر
دخل علي رسول الله ﷺ وقد سترت بقرام فيه تماثيل فلما رآه تلون وجهه ثم هتكه بيده وقال إن أشد الناس عذابا يوم القيامة الذين يشبهون بخلق الله
Muslim recorded it, no. 912107, see the two preceding hadiths, from Ishaq bin Ibrahim. And Bukhari, in the book of Manners, in the chapter "What Kinds of Anger and Severity Are Permissible for the Sake of Allah Almighty," etc., no. 6109, from the hadith of Zuhri, with the same wording.
