The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a ring of gold and placed its stone on the inner side of his palm, so the people began making rings for themselves. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then threw it away and said, "I will never wear it again." Afterwards, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of silver, which he placed on his hand. It then passed to Abu Bakr's hand, then to Umar's hand, then to Uthman's hand, until it was lost in the well of Aris.
Reported by Muslim, in the Book of Clothing, chapter on the prohibition of gold rings for men etc., no. 2091, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Bishr, through the same chain.
