His nose was cut off at the Battle of Kulab during the days of ignorance, so he made for himself a nose of silver, but it began to stink. The Prophet ﷺ then ordered him to make a nose of gold.
أخبرنا محمد بن معمر قال حدثنا حبان قال حدثنا سلم بن زرير قال حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن طرفة
أنه أصيب أنفه يوم الكلاب في الجاهلية فاتخذ أنفا من ورق فأنتن عليه فأمره النبي ﷺ أن يتخذ أنفا من ذهب
[Its chain is hasan] Abu Dawud transmitted it, see the following hadith, as did Tirmidhi, H: 1770, and others, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Tarafah, through him. Tirmidhi said, hasan gharib, and it is in Kubra, H: 9463, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, H: 1466.
