Ibn Umar, when he perfumed himself with incense, would use pure aloeswood without any additives, along with camphor that he would mix with the aloeswood. Then he said, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perfume himself with incense."
أخبرنا أحمد بن عمرو بن السرح أبو طاهر قال أنبأنا ابن وهب قال أخبرني مخرمة عن أبيه
كان ابن عمر إذا استجمر استجمر بالألوة غير مطراة وبكافور يطرحه مع الألوة ثم قال هكذا كان يستجمر رسول الله ﷺ
Narrated by Muslim, in the Book of Wordings on Manners, chapter on using musk and that it is the finest of perfumes, and the disapproval of refusing fragrant plants and perfume, hadith no. 2254, from Abu Tahir Ibn Sarh, with the same wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 9435.
