Abu Quhafa was brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the conquest of Mecca, and his head and beard were as white as the thaghamah plant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Change this with something, but avoid black."
أخبرنا يونس بن عبد الأعلى قال حدثنا ابن وهب قال أخبرني ابن جريج عن أبي الزبير
أتي بأبي قحافة يوم فتح مكة ورأسه ولحيته كالثغامة بياضا فقال رسول الله ﷺ غيروا هذا بشيء واجتنبوا السواد
Muslim recorded it in the Book of Clothing, in the chapter on the recommendation of dyeing gray hair with yellow or red and the prohibition of dyeing it black, hadith no. 79/2102, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Wahb, with the same chain, and it is also found in al-Kubra, hadith no. 9347.
