No thief's hand was ever cut off for stealing anything less in value than a hide shield or a regular shield, each of which has considerable worth.
أخبرنا سويد بن نصر قال أنبأنا عبد الله عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
لم تقطع يد سارق في أدنى من حجفة أو ترس وكل واحد منهما ذو ثمن
Bukhari narrated it in "Hudud," in the chapter "The Saying of Allah Almighty, 'As for the male thief and the female thief, cut off their hands...' etc.," hadith no. 6793, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Mubarak, transmitting it. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 7427.
