Safwan's cloak was stolen from beneath his head while he was asleep in the mosque of the Prophet ﷺ. He caught the thief and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered that the thief's hand be cut off.Safwan said, "Are you going to cut off his hand for this?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Why did you not let him go before bringing him to me?"
