Burayda reported,

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "This man killed my brother."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go and kill him just as he killed your brother."Then the accused man said to him, "Fear Allah and pardon me, for that will be greater in reward for you and better for you and your brother on the Day of Resurrection."So he let him go.The Prophet ﷺ was informed of this and asked him about it, and he told him what the man had said to him. The Prophet ﷺ reproached him and said, "Indeed, he was better than what he was about to do with you on the Day of Resurrection, when he would say, 'My Lord, ask this man why he killed me.'"
