The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The delay of one who can afford to pay makes lawful his honor and his punishment."
أخبرني محمد بن آدم قال حدثنا ابن المبارك عن وبر بن أبي دليلة عن محمد بن ميمون
قال رسول الله ﷺ لي الواجد يحل عرضه وعقوبته
Sourcing, its chain is hasan. Abu Dawud reported it in the Book of Judgments, chapter on whether a debtor may be imprisoned for debt, hadith 3628, from the narration of Abdullah bin Mubarak, with this chain, and it is also in Sunan al-Kubra, hadith 6288. Bukhari mentioned it without a full chain in his Sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith 1164, as did Hakim, 4/102, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Hafiz graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari.
