The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If anyone becomes bankrupt and another man finds his own goods with him intact, that man has a better right to them than anyone else."
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا الليث عن يحيى عن أبي بكر بن حزم عن عمر بن عبد العزيز عن أبي بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال أيما امرئ أفلس ثم وجد رجل عنده سلعته بعينها فهو أولى به من غيره
Muslim reported it in the Book of Musaqah, chapter "One who finds what he sold in the possession of the buyer who has become bankrupt has the right to reclaim it," hadith no. 1559, from Qutayba. Bukhari reported it in the Book of Loans, chapter "If he finds his property with a bankrupt person in a sale...etc.," hadith no. 2402, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed Ansari, through the same chain.
