A man was owed a camel of a certain age by the Prophet ﷺ, so he came to demand payment.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give it to him."But they could only find a camel older than the one owed.He said, "Give it to him."The man said, "You have repaid me in full."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "The best among you are those who are best in repaying their debts."
أخبرنا عمرو بن منصور قال حدثنا أبو نعيم قال حدثنا سفيان عن سلمة بن كهيل عن أبي سلمة
كان لرجل على النبي ﷺ سن من الإبل فجاء يتقاضاه فقال أعطوه فلم يجدوا إلا سنا فوق سنه قال أعطوه فقال أوفيتني فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن خياركم أحسنكم قضاء
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Agency, the chapter on the permissibility of agency for both the present and the absent party, hadith no. 2305, from Abu Nuaym Fadl bin Aayn, and Muslim, in the Book of Musaqah, the chapter on one who borrows something and repays with something better than it, etc., hadith no. 691, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, through him. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 6211.
