I asked Ibn Abu Awfa about salaf transactions.He said, "During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr and Umar, we used to pay in advance for wheat, barley, and dates to people, not knowing whether they had these goods in their possession or not."Ibn Abza said something similar.
أخبرنا عبيد الله بن سعيد قال حدثنا يحيى عن شعبة
سألت ابن أبي أوفى عن السلف قال كنا نسلف على عهد رسول الله ﷺ وأبي بكر وعمر في البر والشعير والتمر إلى قوم لا أدري أعندهم أم لا وابن أبزى قال مثل ذلك
