The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled that the right to a thing's produce belongs to the one who bears responsibility for its loss.

[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Ibn Majah narrated it in the Book of Trade, chapter on liability going with revenue, hadith 2242, from the hadith of Waki with this wording, and it is also in Al-Kubra, hadith 6081. Tirmidhi said, in hadith 1285, "hasan sahih." Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, in hadith 627, as did Ibn Hibban, in hadith 1125, and others. Makhlad is hasan al-hadith. (Nail al-Maqsud, hadith 3508).
