The Prophet ﷺ sent us out on a military expedition under the command of Abu Ubayda. Our provisions ran out, and we came upon a whale that the sea had cast onto the shore. We wanted to eat from it, but Abu Ubayda forbade us at first. Then he said, "We are the envoys of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we are in the path of Allah. Eat."So we ate from it for several days. When we returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about it, he said, "If anything is left with you, send some of it to us."
أخبرنا زياد بن أيوب قال حدثنا هشيم قال حدثنا أبو الزبير
بعثنا النبي ﷺ مع أبي عبيدة في سرية فنفد زادنا فمررنا بحوت قد قذف به البحر فأردنا أن نأكل منه فنهانا أبو عبيدة ثم قال نحن رسل رسول الله ﷺ وفي سبيل الله كلوا فأكلنا منه أياما فلما قدمنا على رسول الله ﷺ أخبرناه فقال إن كان بقي معكم شيء فابعثوا به إلينا
