The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no person who kills a sparrow or anything larger without just cause except that Allah will question him about it."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is its just cause?"He replied, "That he slaughters it and eats it, and does not cut off its head and toss it away."
[Hasan] Ahmad narrated it: 2/166, and Humaydi, no. 587, from Sufyan bin Uyayna through the same chain. It is also in Kubra, no. 4860. Hakim declared it sahih: 4/233, as did Dhahabi. It has a hasan corroborating witness that will come, no. 4451. Amr is Ibn Dinar.
