Thabit bin Wadia reported,

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a lizard. The Prophet ﷺ began looking at it and turning it over, then said, "A nation was once transformed, and it is not known what became of them. I do not know, perhaps this creature is one of them."

أخبرنا عمرو بن يزيد قال حدثنا بهز بن أسد قال حدثنا شعبة قال حدثني عدي بن ثابت قال سمعت زيد بن وهب يحدث

جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ بضب فجعل ينظر إليه ويقلبه وقال إن أمة مسخت لا يدرى ما فعلت وإني لا أدري لعل هذا منها
