He was asked about eating lizards, and he replied that Umm Hufayd gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some clarified butter, dried curd, and lizards. He ate from the butter and the curd but left the lizards out of distaste for them. Had they been forbidden, they would not have been eaten at the table of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor would he have permitted them to be eaten.

أنه سئل عن أكل الضباب فقال أهدت أم حفيد إلى رسول الله ﷺ سمنا وأقطا وأضبا فأكل من السمن والأقط وترك الضباب تقذرا لهن فلو كان حراما ما أكل على مائدة رسول الله ﷺ ولا أمر بأكلهن
