I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting, and he said, "When you shoot your arrow, mention the name of Allah . If you find the game already killed, then eat from it, unless you find it fallen in water and you do not know whether the water killed it or your arrow."
Muslim narrated it in "Hunting and Slaughtered Animals," chapter "Hunting with Trained Dogs and Shooting," hadith no. 7/1929, from the hadith of Ibn Mubarak, and Bukhari narrated it in "Slaughtered Animals and Hunting," chapter "Hunting When the Game Is Out of Sight for Two or Three Days," hadith no. 5484, from the hadith of Asim, with the same chain. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 4810.
